FIELD: shut-down and cooling of nuclear reactor. SUBSTANCE: nuclear reactor has fuel core, draft section and volume compensator, both, included in raising section of heat carrier circulation system, and heat exchanger included in lowering section of heat carrier system. Installed in raising point of system are at least two vessels filled with modules for passing heat carrier through vessels. Vessels located above fuel core contain substance enclosed in module shells. Substance form eutectic alloy with heat carrier and absorbs neutrons. Vessels also contain substance which does not react with mentioned absorber, heat carrier and reactor structural materials and has boiling temperature higher than heat carrier temperature in zone of vessel installation but lower than boiling temperature of heat absorbing substance enclosed in vessels located in raising section of circulating system above fuel core. In this case, thickness and material of module shells located under fuel core correspond to conditions given in invention description. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 1 dwg
