FIELD: lighting engineering. SUBSTANCE: metal halogen lamp has envelope made of optically transparent material with hermetically sealed electrodes and filled with xenon, alkaline metal halides and additions to provide envelope with radiating metal halides. Added into envelope is amalgam containing 0.005-0.35 mg/cm3 of mercury. Sodium amalgam containing mercury within 35 and 65% can be used. EFFECT: enlarged operating capabilities. 2 cl, 1 tbl
