FIELD: instrument engineering; measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: method is based upon exciting oscillations in medium and measurement of characteristics of oscillation process; value of parameter to be found is determined from the parameters to be determined. Oscillations are excited in standard madam element; dependence of one characteristic of oscillation process on parameter to be determined is found. Standard medium element is brought into contact with medium to be tested and oscillations are excited again in standard medium element. Value of parameter to be determined of tested medium is set according to changes in characteristics of oscillation process in standard medium element. Modulated, ultrasonic, hypersonic, electromagnetic and microwave oscillations are used. Resonant frequency, Q-factor, pass rate or oscillations absorption coefficient, standard medium relaxation frequency are used as characteristics to be measured. Liquid, magnetorheological or electrorheological media may be used as standard medium. Two piezoelectric converters are used for realizing the method which are disposed at ends of hollow case filled with standard liquid which is isolated from medium to be tested by elastic partition.
