FIELD: gas industry. SUBSTANCE: object under test in placed in corrosion medium, surface electromagnetic wave is excited, and corrosion rate is determined. Sensitive element is positioned near at least one section of object under test on side which contacts corrosion medium. Delayed electromagnetic wave is excited in this element with shift of magnetic field energy to space between sensitive element and surface of object under test. Variation of electromagnetic wave delay is measured, and rate of corrosion of object under test is judged by result obtained. In addition, distance between sensitive element and surface of object under test is selected to be less than 1/6 the length of delayed electromagnetic wave excited in sensitive element. Sensitive element configuration is selected similar to configuration of object section under test. EFFECT: higher test results. 2 cl, 4 dwg
