FIELD: measuring technology. SUBSTANCE: method involves alternatively measuring time intervals between the moments of arrival at fixed points both shock wave front and identical discrete predetermined pressure values after shock wave front and determining velocity of different points of shock waves on the base of time and locating distances between the fixed points. The device for effecting method has two pressure sensors, two threshold elements, two flip-flops, pulse generator, pulse counter, two inverters, two limiters, AND gate, constant value setting unit, two OR gates, shift register, two groups each including n switches, two groups each including n threshold units, two groups each including n flip-flops, group of 2n AND gate, group of 2n pulse counters, group of 2n+1 sets of AND gates, group of 2n+1 multipliers, group of n+1 dividers.
