FIELD: inorganic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: a silica hydrosol is mixed with an anionic polyelectrolyte solution in an alkali me dium and the precipitated phase is then separated. The anionic water-soluble polymer is used as a polyelectrolyte and after separation of the precipitated phase at least 0.15 mole of urea is added thereto per 100 g of SiO2.
