FIELD: petrochemistry. SUBSTANCE: coke gas is treated with absorbing coal oil in an absorber. The absorbed benzene hydrocarbons are recovered by distillation. The benzene-free oil is withdrawn to be purified from polymeric products in an amount of 1.5-5.0 wt % of the hourly flow rate of oil to be absorbed, mixed with aliphatic hydrocarbons that evaporate at 60-120 C, the aliphatic hydrocarbon to oil volumetric ratio being (2-5):1. The mixture of oil with aliphatic hydrocarbons is separated by decantation from the resulting precipitate of polymeric products. Aliphatic hydrocarbons are removed by distillation. The oil purified from polymeric products is recycled. Coal resin is added to a preferably benzene-free oil to be purified from polymeric products, the oil to coal resin ratio being (1.5-5.0):1. EFFECT: more efficient process. 2 cl, 3 tbl
