FIELD: refrigerating engineering. SUBSTANCE: sensor for checking the thickness of ice being frozen is made in form of tube 5 manufactured from heat-conducting material whose free ends are secured on two cooling elements. Tube has branch for connecting with level sensor. During operation of refrigerating plant, ice is formed on cooling elements 2. Later on ice will be formed both on elements 2 and in tube 5. Part of water contained in tube 5 is converted to solid state (ice) increasing its volume owing to which level of water in level sensor 7 will rise. When thickness of ice has reached optimal value, level sensor 7 will send signal to control panel of refrigerating plant. The possibility of continuous check of thickness of ice being formed makes it possible to select required mode of operation of cold accumulator, i.e. beginning of defrosting and switching on the refrigerating plant for freezing mode.
