METHOD OF STABILIZING ATLAS AND DEVICE FOR CARRYING OUT SAME Russian patent published in 1995 - IPC

FIELD: medicine, particularly, methods for surgical treatment of injuries and disorders in supercervical portion of vertebral column. SUBSTANCE: essence of this method resides in openly setting atlas in correct position and fixing its arch and dentiform process by means of built-up lamellar catch. Upper portion of one lamina is made in the form of curved double-horn fork. Distance between fork horns is greater than diameter of dentiform process and less than distance between atlas anterior arch internal surfaces disposed in frontal plane going through center of dentiform process. Upper portion of other lamina has protrusion. Distance between upper portions of laminas corresponds to thickness of atlas anterior arch. First lamina functioning as stop which limits backward movement of atlas should be positioned from below in Cruvilie articulation in between dentiform process and atlas anterior process. Second lamina functioning as stop which limits forward movement of atlas anterior arch should be positioned in front of atlas anterior arch and stops should be attached to second and third vertebrae. EFFECT: lower rate of traumatism after surgical interventions, greater rigidity of fixed atlas-axial block and shorter treatment period. 2 cl, 6 dwg
