FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: b-carotin is prepared by reductive dimerization in the presence of a previously prepared active form of low-valent titanium. The process is novel in that it uses, as the active form, low-valent titanium of the reaction mixture resulting from electrochemical dissolution of titanium metal in acetic acid. EFFECT: improved preparation process.
