FIELD: materials-handling machines. SUBSTANCE: prior to brinding gripper to load, applied to permanent magnet control coil is current pulse to automatically bring it to magnet built-in load-lifting means, and load is transported. Magnets in load- carrying means are located symmetrically to its vertical axis. Gripper 1 is suspended from flexible suspension to lifting means. Current pulse is passed through control coil 3 to impact magnetic properties to gripper 1. Using load-lifting means, gripper 1 is brought to load 8 to approach load carrying means 6. Processes of approaching, bringing and centering of gripper relative to load are automated and speeded up due to interaction of magnetic fields of gripper and load-carrying means. Further automatic approaching of gripper and load-carrying means results in their joining and griping of load. Then, load is transported and released by sending pulse of reversed polarity. EFFECT: higher efficiency in application (in extreme North regions in unloading containers from ships directly on nonequipped coasts); in this case, gripper is suspended from helicopter which in flight executes slinging of spreader installed on container. 4 cl, 4 dwg
