FIELD: chemistry. SUBSTANCE: this method prescribes dissolving zirconium and hafnium tetrachlorides in potassium chloraluminate at temperature of 280 to 350 C to attain concentration of tetrachlorides of 25 to 55 f per 100 g of solvent, feeding resultant solution at controlled flow rate into evaporator communicating with rectification column where pressure is equal to that existing in evaporator, and conducting evaporation step at temperature of 430 to 550 C and pressure between 0.0005 and 0.15 MPa.
