FIELD: medicine. SUBSTANCE: this medicine named "Retrovir" is competitive inhibitor of reverse transcriptase. This drug administered in case of viral hepatitis B reduces activity of DNA-polymerase and retards synthesis of DNA minus chain. Consequently, this medicine steps down replicating activity of hepatitis B virus, which is accompanied by rapid disappearance of intoxication syndrome, reduction of icteric period, normalization of biochemical processes, disappearance of superficial antigen, and shortening of hospitalization period. Data obtained point to the fact that disclosed drug produces positive therapeutic effect when administered in dose of 660 mg/day and 750 mg/day to patients suffering from moderately severe form of acute viral hepatitis B.
