FIELD: hydraulic engineering. SUBSTANCE: method involves constructing a reservoir for storing waste products in quarry fillable story by story in height. Dumping pulp into the quarry takes place in distributed way using in turn distribution pipes located on different half-perimeters of the reservoir building above-water beach along the borders of the quarry and sedimentation pond in the middle of the quarry. Cross-drainage is constructed at the base of each story along the borders in the form of drainage ribbon made of geotextile or ribbon made of poured material and a drainage pipe communicating with the cavities of collector wells and having locking devices at the ends, each in the form of a leakage-proof flexible envelope and check valves. Antifiltration coating made of nonhardening composition or in the form of additions made of cohesive ground and placed in stories one over another is built each time on the quarry borders having the height of the following story of the reservoir from the quality surface of the drainage ribbon. The locking devices on the pipes are opened before the drainage ribbon of the next story is laid above a pipe but after forming over it a layer of sediments of preset height to prevent drainage pipe from being connected with the sedimentation pond. Water surface level is kept below the lower drainage layer during the process of storage the waste products in collector wells. Water uptake from sedimentation pond is performed by using floating water intake unit provided with blocking floating barrier with longitudinal over-water protective overhang.
