FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: method involves the use of grafted copolymerization of gelatin with methylacrylate in aqueous medium at heating in the presence of persulfate polymerization initiating agent. Gelatin aqueous solution heated to 40-45 C is mixed with methylacrylate and ammonium (potassium) persulfate at the mass ratio of gelatin and methylacrylate 1: (5.2-1.9), at medium pH 2.9-6.0. Prepared mixture is stirred for 3-6 min, and then prepared mixture is heated up to 52-54 C for 40-60 min, reaction mass is kept for 12-15 min up to spontaneous temperature increase up to 64-69 C, stirred for 1-3 min and kept up to ceasing spontaneous temperature increase, then temperature is increased up to 80-93 C, stirred for 2-3 min and kept at this temperature for 30-40 min. Prepared copolymer can be used in chemical and photographic industry. EFFECT: improved method of copolymer preparing. 1 tbl
