FIELD: measuring equipment. SUBSTANCE: a narrow light beam is formed perpendicularly to the direction of glass tube motion. At a contact of the tube edge with the light beam edge a light beam is reflected from the tube surface and recorded by a photodetector. Exactly the same light beam appears at a contact of the other tube edge, diametrically opposite to the first one, with the light beam edge. Two pulses arise at the photodetector output, the time interval between which gives information on the tube diameter if the conveying speed is known. The latter is determined by passing a standard specimen of known dimension through the beam at the same speed. Since time and not amplitude parameters of the output signal are measured, there is no influence of amplitude factors on the measurement results. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy and widened functional potentialities due to determination of the degree of glass tube ellipticity, which is determined according to the length of the light beam image focused by the tube. 8 cl, 6 dwg
