FIELD: geophysics. SUBSTANCE: method is based on irradiation of investigated medium by neutron flux and on registration of gamma radiation of radiative capture from nuclei Ni of iron in characteristic region of spectrum and of flux of thermal neutrons φi by gamma radiation of radiative capture of boron. For this purpose scintillation detector surrounded by boron screen is used. In compliance with method magnetic susceptibility (κ) and density (σ) of ores are measured in addition. Then with the aid of a priori established family of Ki= Ni/φi/Pi(Fe) = f(κ, σ) type particular scaling factors Ki are determined by which values content of iron within required i-th intervals calculated by formula Pi(Fe) = Ni/φi/Ki. Family of dependences Ki= f(κ, σ) is established by results of measurements of parameters Ni, φi,κ and σ in parametric wells or by observation profiles crossing ores of typical mineralogical composition.
