FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: product: 9-substituted guanine derivatives of the formula (I) where R C₁-C₄-alkyl, possibly with one or two OH-groups, or R , or R benzyl, ribosyl, 2′-deoxyribosyl, or -(CH₂)_n-OR₁ at R₁ (CH₂)₂OH, n 1 or 2, or -CH(CH₂OH)₂. Reagent: R 1-substituted 5-(thiocarbamoyl)- amino-1H- imidazole-4- carboxamides of the formula (II) at R see above. Reaction conditions: cyclization is carried out by treatment with heavy metal salt (Cu, Ag, Pb, Hg) in aqueous alkaline medium containing at least four equivalents of hydroxyl-ions, at temperature from room one to boiling point with reflux condenser followed by isolation of the end product by treatment with acid.
