FIELD: organic chemistry. SUBSTANCE: product: 5-ethyl-5-hydroxymethyl-2-(furyl-2)-1,3-dioxane, m. p. is 89-90 C, yield is 65-70% Reagent 1: trimethylolpropane. Reagent 2: furfurol. Process conditions: in the presence cationite of grade КУ-2 in H+-form, in the medium of dry benzene followed distilling off reaction water. Trimethylolpropane is mixed preliminary with crude benzene in the presence of cationite, and water is removed at boiling as azeotropic mixture followed by addition of furfurol, isolation of the end product by crystallization and recrystallization from the hot water. Content of the basic substance is 98% yield is up to 65-70% EFFECT: improved method of synthesis.
