FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: coat for protection of steel blanks from oxidation contains, besides silicon oxide, silicon, sodium or potassium silicate glass (silicate clod, also possible) and sodium silicate solution in the following amount, mas. SiO 44-64; Si 5-14; glass 10-26; sodium silicate solution 10-26. According to the second version of the invention, the coat additionally contains, besides silicon oxide, ferrosilicon, sodium or potassium silicate glass (silicate clod also possible) and sodium silicate solution in the following amounts, mas. silicon oxide 36-54; ferrosilicon 19-32; glass 9-18; sodium silicate solution 10-21. EFFECT: increased degree of protection of steel blanks of railway wheels from oxidation during process heating, extended temperature interval of protection effect of coat and also self-scaling and removal of protection coat in treatment of blanks after heating. 2 cl, 1 tbl
