FIELD: nondestructive testing. SUBSTANCE: invention is meant for detection of flaws, determination of its types and dimensions in embedded fittings welded by different methods. Salient feature of process lies in simultaneous excitation of longitudinal and lateral waves in joint which fall on flaw at third critical angle. In this case converters are installed on surface of shoulder on side of weld in symmetry to axis of the latter and in opposition to each other. In addition signals of reflected and transformed waves are received, their amplitudes are measured and type of flaw is determined by signal of transformed waves, by amplitudes of signals of transformed and reflected waves, with due account of experimental dependences dimension of flat flaw is judged, by amplitude of reflected waves dimension of volumetric flaw is judged and by attenuation of amplitude of lateral waves reflected from bottom surface of shoulder presence of acoustic contact is found. Then one of converters is moved to reinforcing bead of weld maintaining distance between them, longitudinal and lateral waves are excited in joint, passed signals are received and by their attenuation upsetting of core is judged.
