FIELD: electrode production. SUBSTANCE: electrode liberating hydrogen is furnished with coating containing oxide of, at least, one metal taken from group including nickel and cobalt and possessing, as it was determined, extremely low hydrogen overvoltage and not only high catalytic activity but also high strength. Should this electrode have reducing coating produced by reducing of said coating containing oxide of, at least, one said metal, it features extreme low hydrogen overvoltage even when content of oxide or oxides in material of its coating is low.
