FIELD: electricity.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to electrolytic cell comprised of: anode chamber; cathode chamber; partition wall separating anode chamber from cathode chamber; anode installed in anode chamber; cathode installed in cathode chamber; and a body absorbing return current, which has the base and return current-absorbing layer formed at the base and installed in the cathode chamber. At that anode and cathode are coupled electrically and cathode and return current-absorbing layer are also coupled electrically; the return current-absorbing layer includes an element having lower redox potential than the cathode, the above layer is porous and includes Ni or NiO, and its full width at half-maximum of the diffraction line peak for metal Ni at diffraction angle of 2θ = 44.5° at X-ray powder diffraction pattern for the return current-absorbing layer is 0.6° or less. The invention is also related to electrolysis bath.

EFFECT: usage of the above cell allows suppression of the cathode degradation under influence of return current during stop of electrolysis process; at that it has high resistance.
