FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: tested filament is illuminated by parallel beam normal to its surface and luminous flux scattered by filament is registered. Luminous fluxes scattered by tested filament are measured in reverse direction in two identical solid angles oriented in mutually perpendicular planes at equal angles to incident beam. Coefficient of isotropy of diffusion of light is used to judge on value of twist of filament determined by formula χ = Φxy, where Φx is scattered luminous flux measured in plane passing through direction of filament transport; Φy is luminous flux scattered in plane perpendicular to this direction; χ is known dependence of coefficient of isotropy on value of twist K obtained for given type of filament.
