FIELD: monitoring of thread geometric parameters, applicable for operational monitoring of such thread parameters as its diameter, value of twist, number of strands in twisted thread in the process of its manufacture. SUBSTANCE: the tread parameters are estimated on the basis of the of the diffraction pattern observed visually or by means of a photodetector on a screen; the value of twist is estimated by measured average value of distance between the adjacent horizontal series of maxima in the fine structure at Fraunhofer diffraction, the even or odd number of strands is estimated by symmetry of maxima of the adjacent horizontal series, the value of the tread diameter - by the value of the average distance between the adjacent maxima in the horizontal series, and the speed of thread motion is estimated by the average. Value of frequency of the fundamental harmonic of variation of light intensity in the horizontal series of maxima measured by means of the respective photodetector. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy and expanded capability of the diffraction method. 3 dwg
