FIELD: production of high-purity zirconium or hafnium. SUBSTANCE: method for production of high-purity zirconium or hafnium consists in calcium thermic reduction of tetrafluorides in the presence of substances containing nickel. Alloy of zirconium or hafnium with nickel may be produced by out-of-furnace reduction melting. Optimal remelting of zirconium or hafnium iodide bars is carried out in vacuum at residual pressure of 1,3·10-1-1,3·10-4 Pa. EFFECT: simplified driving-off of nickel from alloy, reduced consumption of calcium, and improved purity of zirconium or hafnium. 3 cl, 2 tbl
