FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: method involves working elongate nonrigid parts on vertical eight-spindle semiautomatic sequential turning machines. Apparatus for securing hollow cylinder-type parts has adjustable members for supporting elongate nonrigid billet in vertical position. Adjusting mechanism for correcting vertical axial displacement of part is mounted on supporting members. Height of adjusting mechanism base is about 1/3 of billet height. Apparatus has clamping cams with working surfaces positioned in spaced relation at different levels. Processing line has three stations for working billets to obtain plungers for telescopic hydraulic cylinder. Each station is provided with a pair of eight-spindle vertical semiautomatic sequential turning machines united through common maintenance platform positioned perpendicular to processing line axis. Independent conveyor system for these pair of machines, mounted on this platform, has gravitational conveyance device formed as inclined skid positioned between charging and receiving rollers of united machines. Working station for obtaining bodies of telescopic hydraulic cylinders from billets has one eight-spindle turning semiautomatic machine and screw cutting turning CNC lathe for effectuating fine and roughing turning operations. Machines of pairs of machines on each station for working plungers are positioned at opposite sides of platform in spaced relation one with respect to the other to define chip receiving zones at both sides of chip receiving conveyor extending along processing line axis.
