FIELD: polygraphy. SUBSTANCE: method is based upon sequent reading optical densities out of initial image along elementary areas, determining parameters of line elements, which is disposed in area for forming image cells. Then number of pixels is determined, and image is reproduced by means of filling cell forming area with pixels. Transmission error of optical density is determined either for each area of forming of image cells. The error is equal to difference between average optical density of reading out area of initial image and total optical density of all pixels, which are subject to recording in image cell forming area. The error is added for row of adjacent and close areas of image cells forming area. Value of total error is added to average optical density of reading out area of initial image, and number of pixels is determined for reproducing image in area for forming image. Total value is taken into account in this case. Moreover, number of pixels determined is disposed in areas of initial image at maximal value of optical densities. EFFECT: improved efficiency. 2 dwg
