FIELD: printing industry.

SUBSTANCE: invention is referred to printing industry, publishing and copying engineering and, particularly, to image processing systems. Method of adaptive screening for original halftone is proposed and represented with multi-level reflection values. The essence of method is that original is converted into screen copy consisting of dark and light (print and space) elements with the use of two types of weight values peculiar to copy elements. First of them are distributed in the order irrespective to the manner of tone change along original sections, while the second are distributed taking into account geometry of fine details. Copy elements are formed by dark or light elements based on results of original section reflection values compared with weight values of either first or second type. To improve processing of fine original touches, rate of use for second weight values is increased with regard to their use for single bordering of original dark and light areas. At the same time, elements set to be dark against the first weight values inside light touches on a dark background, will be excluded.

EFFECT: improvement of fine image details processing.
