FIELD: reproduction of color music; production of dynamic multicolor pictures. SUBSTANCE: gas-discharge illumination unit has glass bottle, onto internal or external surface of which the equidistant annular segments are applied with different colors of glowing, which form alternating set of colors. Method of operation of the unit is based upon excitation of visualized ionization wave with spatial period of alternation of sets of annular units. In order to excite alternate different colors of illumination, glowing visualized structure is shifted by means of using superposition of magnetic field with strength, which is selected according to shift of spatial structure for distance, being multiple to width of annular segment.
