FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: during process of surface hardening of steel articles by short electric arc between disc electrodes frequent closures of interarc space occur with drops of molten metal which disturbs stability of arc burning and quality of surface. Stabilization of arc is carried out due to mechanical break of short-circuit bridges with rotation of disc electrode. Growth of circumference speed to 15-20 m/s makes it possible to diminish intensity and duration of pulses. High stability and intensity of arc burning are achieved at rotation speed 15-60 s-1. EFFECT: high stability and intensity of arc burning.
