SUBSTANCE: planetary mechanism plays part of differential, with torque directly applied to sun gear 14 and at different ratios to carrier 15 with planet pinions 16. Speed of rotation of epicyclic wheel 17 and torque across wheel change within wider limits as those at planetary mechanism input. Free fitting of gears on shafts provides increased number of speeds: eight gears provide eight different speeds: seven forward speeds and one reverse speed.
