FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: malononitrile is affected by nitrosation at 10-15 C within 1.5-2.0 h. The process is carried out in aqueous medium with the help of sodium nitrite, organic or mineral acid being used as catalyst. Quantity of said catalyst is 0.01-0.02 moles per 1 mole of malononitrile. Thus prepared sodium salt of isonitroso malononitrile is added to aqueous solution of guanidine hydrochloride or guanidine nitrate being heated preliminary to 40-50 C. Quantity of said solution is 1.05-1.15 moles. Then cooling and filtration thus obtained guanidine salt are carried out. Said salt is placed in butanol and 0.15-0.25 moles of sodium hydroxide are added. The process is followed by heating at 105-115 C within 0.5-1.0 h, by filtration, washing by water and drying.
