FIELD: data displaying. SUBSTANCE: apparatus includes a light irradiation source, a system for color separation and polarization and a projecting lens. In a first variant the system for color separation and polarization in the form of a pair of cells, each cell having a flat layer of cholesteric liquid crystal. Bands of selective reflection of the cells mutually coincide for opposite circulating components. The cells are mounted successively along a direction of the light irradiation, and they are oriented in such a way, that a line, being normal relative to a plane of the layer, forms acute angles with directions of incident and reflected irradiations. The apparatus has a modulator, operating in circular-polarized light. A second variant of the apparatus includes a modulator, operating in plane-polarized light and a plate λ/4., arranged before it. A third variant of the apparatus includes the system for color separation and polarization, having one cell with a flat layer of a cholesteric liquid crystal and a polarization analyzer, a modulator, operating in a plane-polarized light. Members of the systems for color separation and polarization may be secured to glass substrates through an optical adhesive or through immersion liquid, or they may be placed in a casing, filled by immersion liquid. Light irradiation sources may be metal-halide lamps. In order to provide a multicolored images, three groups of elements may be successively arranged behind the light source, each group includes a system for color separation and polarization, a modulator and a projecting lens, the last may be common for all groups. It is possible to use three sources of light irradiation. The systems for color separation and polarization are selective in different spectrum ranges. The systems for color separation and polarization, operating in adjacent spectrum ranges, may be selective for opposite circulating components. Matching lens members may be placed between the above mentioned systems. EFFECT: enlarged using range of the apparatus. 25 cl, 11 dwg
