FIELD: meteorology, biology, medicine, chemical technology, check of environment for contamination and other fields where information on amount and sizes of particles in volume unit is required. SUBSTANCE: method consists in light probing of particles during their motion through countable volume where probing radiation is formed in form of spatially separated parallel light bands oriented perpendicularly relative to direction of motion of microparticles, recording of light scattered by microparticles and analysis of signals. Light bands in countable volume are shaped in form of spatially separated parallel systems of interference bands inserted one in other; interference bands have waves of different length at different distances between maxima of interference bands for each length of wave; during recording, scattering signals from particles at each length of wave are separated; size of particle is judged from combined analysis of form of signals modulated by scattering and received at different lengths of waves.
