FIELD: acceleration engineering; production of heavy-current relativistic pulsed electron accelerators of microsecond range. SUBSTANCE: cathode is made in the form of wedge-section disk with pointed edge radially directed outside; end surface of cathode is flat solid wheel covered with insulating film that hinders explosion emission; solenoid geometry provides for reverse current through diode. Reverse electron current of diode forms plasma on cathode surface facing cathode holder; outer boundary of this plasma functions as electron emitter of forward electron current. Plasma on end surface of cathode is not formed due to insulating coat; quantity of plasma formed on side surface is negligible due to small area of the latter. EFFECT: improved stability of transverse profile of electron beam current density within microsecond time spaces. 3 dwg
