FIELD: chemical technology. SUBSTANCE: methanol is prepared by reaction of carbon oxide with hydrogen, the process is carried out in the presence of catalyst. Said homogeneous catalyst contains (mmol): complex of carbonyl of transition metal being chosen of copper, nickel, cobalt, molybdenum, ruthenium, or their mixture 1-20, alcoholate having formula AM-OR where AM represents Na, K, NMe+4

and OR represents derivative of C1-C5 aliphatic alcohol 40-800, methanol as solvent not more 2500, co-solvent not more 1500. Ratio of mentioned above complex and alcoholate is 2-800. Proposed catalyst is prepared by interaction of carbonyl of transition metal with alkali metal or with amino derivative. The process takes place in the presence methanol and co-solvent which is chosen of tetrahydrofuran, p-dioxane, tert-amyl alcohol. Said catalyst is used at production of methanol of synthesis gas at 100-150 C and pressure 7.03-10.55 kg/cm2. EFFECT: improves efficiency of the method. 26 cl, 5 tbl
