FIELD: high-pressure gas-discharge lamps of reduced ballast requirement. SUBSTANCE: low-pressure gas- discharge lamp has tubular bulb with electrodes on opposite ends incorporating discharge channel on part of interelectrode space length, its sectional area being smaller than that of tube. Discharge channel length is from xr to L-2D, where xr is energy relaxation length of electrons for particular gas; L is distance between electrodes; D is inner diameter of discharge bulb. Discharge channel may be formed by internal wall of discharge bulb or that of additional tube made of optically transparent material, or of high-melting material. Additional tube is installed and hermetically sealed in hole of partition mounted perpendicular to bulb axis and connected through sealed joint to bulb. Partition may be made of high-melting material. Additional lead may be brought out from discharge bulb through partition. EFFECT: simplified design. 6 cl, 5 dwg
