FIELD: halogenated hydrocarbon cooling agents. SUBSTANCE: halogenated hydrocarbons of general formula Cn Hm Fp Clq, wherein n=2-10, m=0-20, p=0-21, q=1-22, and m+p+q=2n+2 are subjected to hydrogenolysis to obtain product with at least one chlorine atom substituted with hydrogen atom. The process is conducted in a vessel made of metal selected from the group consisting of aluminium, molybdenum, titanium, nickel, iron, or alloys thereof, or silicon carbide. The vessel may be empty or filled with perforated dishes, saddles, rings, wire, net, crumbs, pipes, grains, wire tissue, or wool of aluminium, molybdenum, titanium, nickel, iron, cobalt or alloys thereof, or silicon carbide, or with low-surface carbon powder. Process is carried out at 400-700 C under 101-6990 kPa pressure. EFFECT: new method proposed. 1 tbl
