FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: meter has measuring head and rule with standard marks. There are two optical channels in head for targeting to center of the mark and measuring deviations within $$$ borders, where l is distance between marks. Centers of scanning of both channels are moved apart by odd number of $$$, and channels operate alternately to overlap length l (fine scale). Analogue output voltage is measured by means of digital voltmeter, and voltage jumps are observed in it at the moment when count deviates from one slit to another one. During these moments count of readings is measured from rough scale, i.e., number of passed marks is measured. Described device is identical to Michelson interferometer. Contact-free measurement may be made by means of the device. EFFECT: improved precision of measurement; reduced sensitivity to surrounding affect; simplified design. 2 dwg
