FIELD: nuclear power engineering. SUBSTANCE: three barriers are provided in trap case on the path of melt escape. Melt is uniformly distributed by means of internal device over trap space. For its cooling in melt collectors, use is made of water or air supplied therein by passive or active methods. For distributing cooling water, volume distributors are installed in filler space; steam produced in the course of cooling is additionally heated by hot air and exhausted under shell or passed to passive heat transfer system. Trap space is divided into individual vertical sectors each affording trapping, cooling, and holding of core melt. Provision is made for devices controlling rate of melt flow within trap downward to melt collectors and suppressing its kinetic energy. EFFECT: improved safety of nuclear power plant. 4 cl, 3 dwg
