FIELD: heat treatment, namely quenching after induction heating necking portions with fillets, for example cast iron crank shafts of diesel engines of motor vehicles. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of placing crank shaft before quenching, rotating it, quenching its necking portion arranged between two jaws and quenching the same type necking portion without one jaw. At step of placing crank shaft before quenching metallic member is arranged at side of necking portion without one jaw for simulating absent jaw adjacent to necking portion. Said member is spaced from opposite jaw by distance equal to spacing between jaws embracing necking portion at both sides. EFFECT: enhanced quality of crank shaft quenching due to elimination of overheating necking portion at its side without jaw, simplification of method. 2 dwg
