FIELD: metal surface processing. SUBSTANCE: invention relates to inductive heating and may be used for superficial hardening of cylindrical surfaces with fillets, for example, spindles of rear axles of lorries. Method includes installing load coil in respect to cylindrical surface and fillet to be hardened with (process) end clearances followed by inductive heating and cooling. When installing load coil, one successively performs touch of load coil with fillet to form zero end clearance, fixation of this position, and displacement of load coil from fixed position at a distance of end clearance with formation of end clearance between fillet and load coil. Device consists of hardening unit with load coil, mechanism for fixing an object, mechanism providing end clearance between load coil and fillet of object with a platform installed on guides. In the platform, there are guides with spring-loaded carriage and means to press the carriage to guides. Hardening unit is fastened to carriage. EFFECT: improved quality of hardening due to stabilization of end clearance. 2 cl
