FIELD: catalysts for petrochemical syntheses. SUBSTANCE: α-alumina carrier with specific surface at least 0.7 sq.m/g is impregnated with first impregnating solution containing a silver compound and separated from impregnating solution. Carrier is then treated under conditions allowing silver compound to be transformed into metal silver and impregnated with second impregnating solution containing one more silver compound which is further reduced in a similar way. Impregnation is carried out until 30-60% metal silver content based on total catalyst weight is achieved. Advantageously, one of impregnating solutions contains at least one promoter selected from the group of alkali metals in amount 0.03-0.6% on total catalyst weight. Desirable is also lamellar type of carrier and its including a fluorine-containing compound. Aforementioned promoter preferably contains sulfur and molybdenum halides and/or oxide anions.
