FIELD: fire fighting in closed spaces. SUBSTANCE: aerosol is produced by burning of solid fuel aerosol-forming element, and it is supplied to the fire space, first with high flow rate to form in the space a fire-extinguishing concentration of 0.75-1 for the time equalling 0.2-0.5 of the all time of fire fighting and burning up of 0.5-0.8 of the mass of aerosol-forming element. Then, the flow rate is reduced by 2-5 times and the volume is additionally fed by low flow rate for the time equalling 0.5-0.8 of the all time for fire fighting. The generator for embodiment of the offered method includes body, initiator, heat absorbing element and aerosol-forming element consisting of two solid charges - quick-burning and slow-burning ones separated by circular spacer. Quick-burning charge mass is less than that of flow-burning one by 1.5-3 times and located on the side of heat-absorbing element. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 7 cl, 2 dwg
