FIELD: plastic working of materials. SUBSTANCE: method involves assembling ingot by placing one billet within the other and fixing them; heating ingot; positioning on needle and pressing through conical die by placing ingot into container and applying axial compressive force to end through pressure plate. Billets are assembled by performing radial deformations. To do that, billet is made from cladding material and composite across its height, for instance double-layer. Three billets are fixed by axial plastic compression of central billet to provide for radial expansion of outer billets and further axial displacement of central billet in direction opposed to direction of compressive force. As a result flat surface is formed on one end of ingot. When ingot is positioned on needle, its flat end is disposed adjacent to pressure plate. Billets may be manufactured from the same or different materials. EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved quality of ingots. 3 cl, 11 dwg
