FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: invention aims at manufacturing working and anvil rollers with elevated requirements in respect to hardness, depth of active hardened layer on rollers, and also elevated resistance to softening when tempered, and wear resistance with simultaneously being workable in steel smelting and forge ranges. Steel of invention contains (in wt %): carbon, 0.65-0.85; silicon, 0.45-0.90; manganese, 0.40-0.80; chromium, 1.70-2.20; vanadium, 0.12-0.25; titanium, 0.002-0.006; nickel, 0.10-0.50; cobalt, 0.01-0.05; nitrogen, 0.004-0.014; arsenic, 0.004- 0.02; niobium, 0.002-0.03; tantalum, 0.002-0.010; iron, the balance. New steel was approved when manufacturing cold-rolling working rollers with diameter 615 mm. Rollers exhibited hardness of hardened surface within 93- 102 range and depth of active hardened layer 17-23, which 1.4-1.5 times exceeds that for standard type of rollers. EFFECT: increased hardness and wear resistance. 3 dwg , 2 tbl
