FIELD: manufacture of optically transparent materials. SUBSTANCE: invention is aimed at manufacturing fiber-optic light conductors, solid-state and laser gyroscopes, packaging material for long storage of exhausted nuclear fuel. High-purity silicon tetrafluoride is subjected to pyrohydrolysis in low-temperature induction plasma. Resultant nanocrystalline fluorine-containing tridymite powder is melted at 1200-1470 C. EFFECT: improved procedure.
