FIELD: microbiology, immunology. SUBSTANCE: strain Mycobacterium avium GISK N 43 is isolated from patient sputum with lung damage. Strain grows well on the solid egg medium and shows antigenic properties that are similar with that of M. leprae. This ensures to use this strain for serological diagnosis of leprosy with sera from patients, from persons with uncompleted regression and with clinically stable regression.
