FIELD: metal working and mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: to increase wear resistance and obtain analytical relationship between parameters of treatment and cutting operations (irradiation dose and cutting speed), on one hand, and values characterizing composition, structure, and mechanical properties of objects (coercitive force and coefficient of stability), on the other hand, method offers selection of wavelength of X- or gamma-radiation in the range from 1.234 10-3 to 24.5 and irradiation dose D determined from equation: D = exp(aV- bHc+cKstt+d) where V is cutting speed, Hc coercitive force, Kst coefficient of stability, and a-d are empirical coefficients which are determined for each class of objects.
